Jockeys and Juleps 2012

Horse racing is often called "The Sport of Kings," a throwback to the days when the cultural elite would amuse itself by watching horses race each other atop local monarchs. Though the rules of the sport have changed slightly, watch the excitement at Jockeys and Juleps 2012.

In the covered stables at Cascade Stables, guests gather to watch the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby on a widescreen TV. Every attendee is encouraged to come dressed in early-20th-century horse-track-outing finery, which could earn him or her the winning place in a best hat contest or an IOU for a time machine ride once one is invented. During the race, guests can sip on mint juleps and nibble on food provided by a New Orleans restaurant while listening to music from a live band and joining in a silent auction.

Hosted by the Friends of the Stables in Audubon Park, the event’s proceeds will help fund therapeutic riding programs.
